Obtaining study visa has always been a major challenge to students and parents alike. In the past it was not as difficult as it has become today. Today, students and parents go from embassy to embassy in all efforts to obtain study visa but are oftentimes denied. This has become a constant phenomenon in our present day setting. The reasons for this are not far fetched. Here are some of them:

1. Every year the number of students wishing to study abroad is rapidly increasing such that embassies cannot issue visa to everybody and so a number of applications have to be turned down.
2. Because there have been some criminal activities linked to some foreign students in some countries, as such embassies are careful not to issue visas to students whom they consider potential criminals or terrorists and this consequently go a long way to affect other innocent students who may not have such intentions.
3. Some foreign universities have also in the past reported about foreign students not attending classes and their whereabouts unknown to the university authority. Some of these students abandon study and start working. This also has resulted in making the embassies more strict with issuing visas.
4. Another reason has been that during visa interview some students do tell lies or even bring along forged documents. This single act alone has made embassies even more strict with visa issuance.

These and others not mentioned here are some of the reasons why embassies issue visas to only very few number of students each year and in a situation where some of these embassies staff have to compromise they would demand a huge sum amount of money from students and parents.

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO PRESENT FOR VISA INTERVIEW?

Applicants MUST present the original copies of the following documents to the consul for their visa interview. Please note that applicants MUST ensure that the documents that they are presenting are truly theirs and NOT someone else’s or forged documents. These documents include:

• International passport
• Invitation/Acceptance letters from the University/Ministry of Education
• Secondary school certificate
• Birth certificate
• Medical certificate
• Bank Statement of Sponsor
• 8 passport size photograph

WHAT ROLES DOES HIGHERWAY EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT (HEC) PLAY IN YOUR VISA INTERVIEW?

1. Before our students set out for visa interview our Representatives would have examined their document and point out areas within the supporting documents where a student may be vulnerable to rejection.

2. HEC prepares students on how to appear and conduct themselves for visa interview which is especially very important.

3. HEC provides students with up to date information about any recent changes to the visa application process.

4. HEC guides and provides advice on a broader perspective to students on all aspects of the student visa application process.

5. HEC presents the financial position of students or their sponsors in a manner that will promote the maximum confidence needed by the embassies that funds are available for study purposes.

6. In the unfortunate event where a student's visa application is rejected, HEC will examine the reasons provided by the embassy, and where we feel a genuine and obvious error has occurred, will seek a reconsideration of the decision without the need of a second visa application.

IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY TO OBTAIN A VISA OTHER THAN INTERVIEW?

Yes. A few of the universities that we partner with directly apply for visa on behalf of foreign students. Georgia is one of such countries where students do not need to appear in the embassy for interview. This means that students who apply to universities in these countries will not have to appear at the embassy for interview, instead the university collects students' documents and submit them directly to the embassy once students have met all the requirements. In this case visa is usually 100% guaranteed.
